  • Walk to the Luck at Last mine site a scenic one hour walk to old gold mine ruins.
  • Visit Whangamata – surflifesaving club on surf beach, coffee, mini golf, movies, restaurants, clubs and plenty of fun for all ages
  • Whangamata - range of sporting facilities from golf to boat chaters.
  • Whangamata is rich in a variety of arts: sculpture, painting, weaving and pottery.
  • Visit Onemana, a popular surfcasting beach that offers exceptional views and walks from the southern hilltop.
  • Walk in the Wentworth Valley to Wentworth Waterfalls– a Conservation area 5 minutes drive to the south of Whangamata.
  • Walk to the waterfalls – two hours – or over the ranges to Maratoto.
  • Cycle around the area – north or south.
  • Go deepsea fishing trip around Mayor Island from Whangamata
  • Take your boat out to Slipper Island - just off Opoutere Beach - great fishing and diving 
  • Hot Water Beach -one of the world's rare hot spring beach - a favourite NZ tourist spot.
  • Drive the Coromandel circuit up the East Coast to Whitianga then over to west coast to goldmining towns of Coromandel township and down to Thames.
  • Visit goldmining town of Waihi - 1 hour drive
  • Visit Cathedral Cove Beach, Hahei - spectacular beaches - 40 minutes drive 
  • So many places to see and do only in a 1 to 2 hour drive radius
